The 10-Minute Reset Every Business Owner Needs

Every business starts with a vision, but even experienced professionals can lose sight of the basics when things get busy, challenging or frustrating. Those are the times when we tend to skip past the hard questions and focus more on day-to-day activity versus real direction.
In Your First Business Blueprint I challenge my readers to stop and assess their foundation first (even if they’ve been in business a while). And this isn’t about mission statements or big-picture strategy either; it’s about knowing where you stand, what you want and what you’re building toward.
Here’s a quick reset exercise you can do in 10 minutes or less. Ask yourself:
Why am I doing this? Income, passion or purpose are all important, but your why is uniquely yours. Define it in one clear sentence and keep it in a visible place.
Where am I right now? Be honest about your capabilities, available resources and time. List your top three constraints and pick one to address first.
What does success look like to me? Define it before you start to create a roadmap for getting there. Nail down a measurable target and track your progress weekly for the next 90 days.
Capture your thoughts down on paper or screen and use them to support your next strategic move. The great part is that when you get your why right, the rest of your plan will begin to fall into place.
Your First Business Blueprint walks you through this kind of reflection step by step. And for anyone ready to turn their answers into a concrete plan, Blueprints Beat Cocktail Napkins is launching soon and offers a fast, practical way to put those ideas to work.
